Draught or Draft?

Just depends which continent you’re drinking on! Both are correct and can be found on menus in the US. But draft is more common here, while draught is preferred is Great Britain. They all come from a tap as opposed to a bottle or can.

What About Draft Beer?

Draft beer has several things going for it making it a favorite among beer drinkers.

First, it spends its life in the dark in a pressurized keg! And also, once tapped, is kept at the optimum temp. Cans and bottles on the other hand have the potential to be affected by air and light. The result is that over time they develop a stale flavor.

Also, beer on tap seems to usually turns over faster. Keeps that fresh taste throughout the keg. Also, beer on tap gives a smoother experience. This is the result of the beer losing a small amount of carbonation as it travels from the keg, through lines or tubing to your mug. The process also gives it a little softer head.

Back to those lines delivering your beer. There are 2 ways to negatively affect a draft. The first is to fail to keep the tubing clean. And the second is to not monitor temps once tapped.

This can says draft beer. How is that possible? True it’s not a keg but the carbonation process is rather unique making it a close second! Each can of draft contains a widget or cylinder filled with nitrogen (usually.). Opening the can changes the pressure which causes the cannister to erupt. This then adds the carbonation.
